Centre for Community Empowerment in Conflict and Peacebuilding believes passionately in non-violence and the power of local action. Local people are central to the resolution of their own conflicts. Peace is not sustainable if imposed from the outside.

Since the birth of the Centre for Peace and Community Empowerment in Conflict and Peacebuilding, we have supported local peacebuilders by providing vital assistance to ensure grassroots action stopping conflict and violence can continue. With our local partners, we have saved lives, provided paths out of violence and built better futures. As an independent organization funded by people like you, we can direct money and support to where it is most urgently needed.

At Centre for Community Empowerment in Conflict and Peacebuilding, we believe that local communities should be the drivers of sustainable peace. Partnering with them is at the heart of everything we do. In recent years, a growing tide of activists has pushed for ‘localisation’ in development and peacebuilding. Structural inequalities remain. We believe this prevents local people from truly leading change and ultimately undermines community efforts towards peace across Nigeria. We exist to challenge the status quo. To rebalance relationships and power in favour of local people and communities.

At Centre for Community Empowerment in Conflict and Peacebuilding, we believe that local communities should be the drivers of sustainable peace. Partnering with them is at the heart of everything we do. Our approach differs from the mainstream indigenous models for development, peace, and security, which are often rooted in neocolonialist thinking, and actively discriminate against the people and communities. At the same time, we recognize that much of our work still operates within these systems, and in many ways supports and benefits from them.
